Website: https://queeridentitiesphilosophyconference.weebly.com/
KCL Minorities and Philosophy is excited to announce that it will be hosting its first conference on 24th-25th March 2018 at King’s College London.
Our theme will be queer identities – both in and of themselves, and how they interact with different issues in philosophy. We particularly welcome submissions from individuals who have historically been under-represented in philosophy and the queer community.
Keynote speaker: Dr Rahul Rao, SOAS
Undergraduates and postgraduates from UK universities (from philosophy and related disciplines) are invited to submit abstracts on the theme of “Queer Identities and Philosophy”. We will also accept submissions from international students but we are unable to fund international travel.
Possible areas include (but are not limited to):
– Political Philosophy
– Ethics
– Metaphysics
– Epistemology
– Aesthetics
– Queer theory
– Philosophy of language
We also welcome submissions from students of related disciplines such as literature, sociology and history.
Abstracts should be around 500 words in length (not including bibliography). Please send your abstract in PDF format to mapforthegap.kcl@gmail.com, ensuring the abstract is prepared for anonymous review i.e. contains no identifying information. Successful applicants will have 30 minutes to present their paper, followed by 20 minutes of discussion.
The deadline for abstract submissions is Monday 15th January 2018. Please get in touch with us via email (mapforthegap.kcl@gmail.com) if you have any problems meeting this deadline.
Please include a short covering paragraph in your email with your name, level of study and institution. We invite you to include any information you would like us to know about yourself, including any disabilities you would like us to take into account.
Bursaries of a maximum amount of £50 will be available for accepted students to contribute towards the cost of travel and/or accommodation.
We will notify applicants of the outcome by Monday 29th January 2018.
